Abstract
Reconstruction of the oropharynx and cervical esophagus poses a formidable challenge to the surgeon. In many instances the patient is compelled to undergo multiple procedures, which results in prolonged hospitalization and subsequent impairment of the quality of life. Recent advances in micro vascular surgical techniques have resulted in a resurgence of primary reconstruction with jejunal free flap. This has proved to be a versatile and reliable procedure. We present our experiences of 3 cases of jejunal patch free transfer for the defect of oral cavity and pharynx and 3 cases of jejunal conduit free transfer for the defect of lower pharynx and cervical esophagus after the wide resection of squamous cell cancer, and review other reconstructive methods.
